Raise the Barn!
Saturday, July 15, 2017
6:00 - 9:00 PM
This is a 21 and over event
Yamhill Valley Heritage Center
11275 SW Durham Lane, McMinnville
Building on the success of our past Hooley events, RAISE THE BARN is inspired by the fundamental work we do at YCAP -- lifting community and promoting self-sufficiency. Historically, barn raises reflected the collective action of neighbors to support each other and help families provide for themselves.
RAISE THE BARN celebrates Americana with:
- A good old fashioned pig roast and delicious picnic sides, led by local favorite Chef Kyle Chriestenson from The Diner.
- Live music that will get you up dancing!
- Pre-Prohibition cocktails and local wine and beers by David Sanguinetti of The Bitter Monk.
- Experience package raffle, and more!
For our live entertainment we will be joined by Will West And The Friendly Strangers. Check out this video to hear their psychadelic blue grass, folk and groove fusion sound!
This year's RAISE THE BARN will bring vital funds to Client Services and our Regional Food Bank. Read below to find out how your attendance at RAISE THE BARN will help YCAP continue to assist our low-income neighbors in need in Yamhill County.
Client Services and Housing
One of YCAP’s core services is finding STABLE HOUSING for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Our Housing Specialist reaches out across the county to build relationships with kind-hearted landlords so they will give us preference on their rental units. When we do move a grateful client in, we also provide a “Street to Home” Kit of new home essentials, and continued comprehensive case management towards self-sufficiency. Some grants fund this, but not enough to meet demand. To adequately run this program, we need an additional $45,000 per year.
The Regional Food Bank
One of our most popular and targeted programs is FRIDAY FAMILY FOOD. We offer bags or backpacks of nutritious food to elementary school kids on Fridays during the school year, so they and their families have meals over the weekend. Last year we distributed 8,160 bags! This program currently delivers at four Yamhill County schools. We would love to expand at Sue Buel Elementary in McMinnville. The cost to run this program is $9,500 per school.
